Recently, I purchased the Thompson Bible in Portuguese here in Brazil. The Bible is beautiful but I didn't like the font size, because the font is too big. This Thompson Bible in the English version is more beautiful. I'm going to suggest the Brazilian publisher to make one just like this one.

Wow, they took out 300+ pages, and that’s with the smaller font… Not sure how I feel about that.
I bought an original in NASB ‘77 text, and for now it will remain in its box. 😂 I do LOVE the deep-red highlights and coloring of the newer version; the older pink-red is not for me. I’d even prefer a blue or purple to Christ’s words, but understand the meaning behind the red, though publishers don’t always use an “attractive, high-quality red” that’s easy on the eyes…
THANK YOU, as always, for doing these videos. TCR is my all-time favorite of Bibles. ❤️
PS: HAPPY BELATED ANNIVERSARY to you and your bride!! Y’all’er the BESTEST!!! 🥰😍😁

This is long overdue- and having a Bible that promotes exegesis of the text is what the NIV has needed. Great review.

No, you will not get any exegesis here. These are strictly topical footnotes, leading you to just look up the same footnote/idea in other parts of the Bible. There is absolutely no commentary or maps-as-you-go, or glosses. This Bible does NOT interpret, explain, or put into context ANY passage or verse, but just lists a bunch of "topics" on the side, which you are then expected to look up in other parts. I found it rather disappointing, and almost a gimmick. Get a proper study Bible (NASB Zondervan is probably best or NLT Life Application) if you truly want to understand specific books, chapters and verses. Or if you just like looking up verses of related topics, then just use Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, and do it that way. At least you'll then have ALL the verses on a word or topic, instead of a smattering, which is what you get here, sadly.

I bought a Thompson Chain NASB Bible from Zondervan less than a year ago and the glued backing is broken already. It is NASB 95, it's a 2023 edition. I'm VERY DISSAPOINTED in it. Everything about the Bible I thought was very good, the text is easy to read with the two colors, etc.... but when the back started to break when I was using it turned me right off.
If I would have known that it was a glued backing I NEVER would have bought it. All the Bible is used for now ~ is looking cute as it takes up space on my book shelf.
I know how to treat Bibles (I have 17 different Study Bibles). It wasn't a cheap Bible - it spoiled a $100.00 Canadian dollars. So now I'm stuck with it, its not even fit to give away......
I deliberately read the advertisements and watched the videos on that Bible and NO mention was made concerning the binding, however the leatherette cover is quite comfortable to handle - yeah...I'll give it that much... Even the "reviews" I watched ignored that fact.
Think about it.... Its a Study Bible"! It's very nature dictates that it will be USED!....... but it falls apart when you do actually USE it! So please do make mention of the bindings in your reviews so that it would help others from making a very bad investment in their study of the Word.
Thanks for listening to my rant.

If I'm not wrong, the new KJV version, sadly, does not have a glossary for the archaic words. I would really wish for that to be incorporated into a bible of this size.

I have the original one, with the KJV glossary, but it's not very good at all; extremely limited. You're best off with the Thomas Nelson publisher's KJV reference Bible, where every confusing/archaic word is footnoted, right on the page. It even beats all the study KJV Bibles out there. There's no other Bible like it, to read the KJV with minimal frustration.

Good evening and congratulations to the work, I would like to leave here my impression of this material. At first it seems like a fantastic bible, but I confess that I have a certain fear of these chain references and I would like to see your opinion and also from the other members of the channel, my question is, wouldn't this tangle of themes linking verses from different books lead to the possibility of decontextualizing texts simply because, by separating these verses from their main theme and linking them to others they may bring a new idea? Almost like a word search where we look for fragments of letters and books to build an argument that, if we were to evaluate the complete texts from which we took those pieces, would not have the same meaning?
Well, brothers, this is my question about this bible, it seems to me that, starting from an idea that we want to develop, we could find fragments of texts that can give meaning that we want but it's something that was never the intention of the texts from which they were taken. Please comment.

    • @watteau6646
      @watteau6646 11 месяцев назад +1

The chain-reference subject is rather a gimmick, really. It's just a string of topical references throughout the Bible; I went through a few dozen of these chains, and did not get much out of it, that I couldn't get out of Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, by just looking up 'topics' using key words. The different verses that are "chain-linked" are only linked by topic, so there's no fear of interpreting one passage of scripture with another. But that's what makes it shallow, also. It's better to just buy Strong's, or to get a proper study Bible (Zondervan's NASB is superb) if you truly want to get serious about Bible study. There is absolutely no commentary and almost zero cross-references in the Bible, too. But the old version contained some cool stuff, like an archeological section, lots of cool old-timey charts and diagrams. But yeah, it's gimmicky, sadly. Oh and the paper is too thin to be flipping through anyway, if you do look up those verses.

I have a Kirkbride TCR KJV and have pre-ordered the new TCR KJV. Reason? I have never enjoyed the center line and all the verses scrunched together. The new layout looks fantastic and I can't wait to get my hands on the new edition. I ordered the genuine cowhide indexed. November seems so far away, but by the time it's shipped and delivered, it will be my Christmas present (from my hubby) to me. (He doesn't know it yet) Ha Ha ;O)

Liked the video very much and I'll get around to watching the suggested Bible Buying Guide you referenced
... but, absolutely not a criticism of the book (I don't know nearly enough to do that) and even less you/your review, (I'm just being a details pedant)
When you opened the Deut 1, couldn't help noticing a difference in the (first group of) references:
older version had one more ref than the new, ... pausing the vid the old version had 2 refs for Kadesh Barnea.
It may not matter, and myself not having any copy (I'll order one real soon - but prefer not to have to order 2 versions) wondering if you had, or through contacts have a quick answer
    - is it one of the "corrections" to say a wrong reference (as you mentioned earlier) or an "editorial" (re-editorial??) decision by Zondervan? or the 2 refs were merged in the "refs index"?
Sorry, know it's asking a lot... but now having seen it it's gonna be up there with that mosquito in the bedroom that only comes out when you switch off the light.

I bought a new TC NIV in 2022. I found a few errors in the book intros. For example, in Acts, 4309 is supposed to be the “Overview of Paul’s Life,” but in my Bible it’s “Places of Religious Worship” This is just one I’ve found. Do you have a contact where I can turn these in as I find them?

I own this Bible, the KJV, the original version, with the archeological supplement. It is very handsome, and it seems to promise much, but there really is no commentary on the passages whatsoever, it is just a "topical" reference along the side, some of which have a few chain-linked verses, many of which do not, and you just look them up in the Cyclopedia in the back, and there will be some verses listed there. You will not get any clarification on some basic symbolism--the symbol itself (calf, eagle, candle) will simply be in the Cyclopedia as its own reference with other verses in the Bible, not giving you a clue to what it means in the context you're reading. To truly understand any of the context of what you're reading, you will have to get a proper study Bible (like Zondervan's NASB, a real gem). The pages to this Bible are also too thin to be flipping around much. Between your forefinger and your thumb will be 1mm of pages, and that will be an entire NT book, and you'll get frustrated flipping through these tissue-like pages.
I really like the pronunciations and the old-style font, and even the smell of this Bible, but I'm just disappointed that it doesn't really help "open up" the passages and verses for me like I thought it would. If you want to just read a bunch of different verses on a particular "topic", this Bible could be for you. But you could also just buy Strong's Concordance, and look up your topic that way (using the words directly). The verse selections here are not complete, either--they leave out a lot. The KJV "archaic words" dictionary is severely limited. If you want a KJV Bible with helps on the words, you cannot go wrong with Thomas Nelson's, which footnotes every obscure/confusing word in the KJV (nobody does it better). Better to just use a proper study Bible, combined with Strong's.
